Following quality control, the goods are then subjected to an initial firing, called the Verglühbrand (glow firing), at 980° C. During that firing, the remaining moisture is removed from the body, the organic components of the raw materials are released completely and the body gains a clearly increased level of stability. This is followed by the so-called blue immersion. In other words, the porcelain is dipped in blue dye, which is burnt away completely during the second firing. The finest flaws, undetectable by the human eye, can be discovered as a result. The KPM emblem, a cobalt blue sceptre along with the initials KPM, is applied only to perfect pieces.
