1943: More than shattered porcelain

On the night of 22/23 November, an Allied bombing raid destroys the KPM building in Tiergarten, along with its machinery and materials. As a result, many moulds are irretrievably lost.

From 1945 on: KPM is divided in two

Emergency quarters are set up in Selb (Franconia) where a company expansion had been planned. From that location, KPM continues to supply the market with ornamental porcelain and tableware. At the same time, employees rebuild the ruins in Berlin. But the division of production also means that effectiveness is divided.

1957: KPM reunited

The production that had been relocated to Selb returns to KPM's historical site in Berlin's Tiergarten district, which has, in the meantime, been reconstructed.

1967: Inspired by the Orient

In 1967, designer Wolf Karnagel creates the STAMBUL mocha service. These days, it is traded in auction houses as a design classic.

1981: Moulds for figures

GDR leaders return KPM's archive, which had been moved to East Berlin. West Berlin makes a payment in kind: In exchange for the archives, the figures that once graced the Schloßbrücke (a bridge near the former palace) are returned to their original location.
