1986: A royal feast

For his court, the Sultan of Brunei places an order with KPM for a ROCAILLE dinner service in the Breslau City Palace décor, a KURLAND coffee service and the CAMPANER chocolate service. In 1987, the URANIA dinner service is produced based on Trude Petri's 1938 designs for the ARKADIA and FELDBLUMENRELIEF AUF BORD services.

1988: Royal once again

The Berlin Senate decrees that KPM is no longer a purely state-run enterprise, rather a GmbH (private limited company) with a new (its former) name: KPM -- Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin GmbH. A subsidiary of the state-owned Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB), the Gewerbesiedlungsgesellschaft (GSG), is now responsible for KPM.

1991: A change of colour

The design-defining years of the 1980s are over, and even at KPM cultural and handcrafted traditions are more up-to-date than ever, with new colours and patterns being created.
In 1993, KPM is given a new corporate design. The old sceptre from Frederick the Great's coat of arms takes centre stage in a modern look.  Old and new are also combined in the product range. Prominent services from the New Objectivity period are produced once again, and original designs are realised for the first time.
